UNISON Barnsley Local Government Branch is pleased to announce Barnsley Hospice as its nominated charity for 2018.

Barnsley HospiceBarnsley Hospice provides palliative care and support for people and their families facing terminal illness.  This can be through admissions to the 10 bed in-patient unit where they provide 24/7 consultant led care, provision of counselling and complimentary therapies and weekly drop in sessions for patients and carers.  Barnsley Hospice isn’t just somewhere people go to die, it’s somewhere that supports people to live and get through each day no matter how horrific the things they are facing.

UNISON Local Government Branch is pleased to announced they have fundraising events planned on the 12th August at Wortley Hall’s South Yorkshire Festival  and a bag packing event at Tesco’s  in Penistone on the 20th October.  These events are to raise funds towards the Hospice’s ‘Comfort, Care Campaign’ to refurbish the patient rooms at Barnsley Hospice.

The planned refurbishment project will see the Hospice’s 10 en-suite patient bedrooms completely transformed to help patients and those close to them feel more comfortable and relaxed during their stay.  Specifically, the improvements will include new specialist beds, integral hoists, air conditioning and piped oxygen which will allow the hospice nurses to give the best possible standards of patient care. New en-suite wet rooms, furniture, flooring and décor will create a peaceful, homely environment for the patients and their families.

The Branch are very pleased to be sponsoring Barnsley Hospice in 2018 and hope to raise as much money as possible for this worthy cause.
